AmberjacksIt was only a short while ago when we could go to Hutchison's Shoal or Wide Caloundra and pull up countless Amberjacks weighing anything from 8Kg to 28Kg. This is just a short video of one of the toughest fish in the ocean. It looks easy but they can take anything up to thirty minutes to drag to the surface on light rods and line.

Bait BallsThe formation of a bait ball occurs when the larger predators find a school of bait. The predators scare the small bait fish by swimming and lunging at them forcing the fish to the surface and herding them into a very tight ball . The baitfish soon become terrified and try their best to remain in the centre of the school in an attempt to stay alive. The baitfish are also trapped against the surface and soon become a target for the birds. The water soon becomes a frenzy of fish that attract even more predatory fish by the noise they make as well as the mass of blood and scales. This is an amazing sight and I am glad I am not a bait fish.

How To Net A CobiaThis video has a number of highly experienced fishermen who spent a few days at 1770. George had hooked a rather large Cobia but rather than receiving praise from his "Mates", he was met with a barrage of complaints because this fish had prevented everyone else from fishing.
There were all sorts of threats including the use of a knife to cut the line. It was good to see that everyone used their finely honed skills to finally capture the fish with the use of a net. |

Ignoring the DingoThis beautiful, well natured female Dingo had seven pups to feed and as much as we would have liked to help her, it was illegal to feed her. Sometimes she would quickly catch the odd Tailor that was accidently dropped.
